A new magnetic white dwarf: PG 2329+267
We have discovered that the white dwarf PG 2329+267 is magnetic, and, assuming a centred dipole structure, has a dipole magnetic field strength of approximately 2.3 MG. This makes it one of only approximately 4 per cent of isolated white dwarfs with a detectable magnetic field. Linear Zeeman splitting, as well as quadratic Zeeman shifts, is evident in the hydrogen Balmer sequence and circular s...
متن کامل1RXS J232953.9+062814: a New SU UMa Dwarf Nova below the Period Minimum
1RXS J232953.9+062814 was identified as a cataclysmic variable by Wei et al. (1999). Four low-resolution spectra of 1RXS J232953.9+062814 were obtained by using the 2.16-m telescope of the National Astronomical Observatories, in which two of them were at outburst, and the other two were at quiescence. The system is about 16.8B and 16.5 V at quiescence, and 12.6B and 12.6 V at outburst. The quie...
متن کاملA new period for the magnetic white dwarf KPD 0253 + 5052
We present phaseresolved circular polarization measurements of the rotating magnetic white dwarf KPD 0253+5052. A new and more accurate period of (3.79 ± 0.05) h for KPD 0253+5052 could be determined by measuring the broadband polarization in the Hβ and Hγ lines derived from medium resolution (about 5 ˚ A FWHM) spectropolarimetric data at different phases.
متن کاملPG 1541 + 650 : A new ZZ Ceti white dwarf ?
We report the discovery of a new pulsating DA white dwarf, or ZZ Ceti, from the list of the Palomar-Green survey, rediscovered in the ongoing Hamburg Quasar survey (HQS). PG1541+650 is one of the ZZ Ceti candidates listed in the analysis of 80 DA white dwarfs from the HQS. With an effective temperature of 12000 K, for a surface gravity logg=7.79, it lies in the ZZ Ceti instability strip. It is ...
متن کاملThe evolutionary state of short-period magnetic white dwarf binaries
We present phase-resolved spectroscopy of two new short-period low accretion rate magnetic binaries, SDSS J125044.42+154957.3 (Porb = 86 min) and SDSS J151415.65+074446.5 (Porb = 89 min). Both systems were previously identified as magnetic white dwarfs from the Zeeman splitting of the Balmer absorption lines in their optical spectra. Their spectral energy distributions exhibit a large near-infr...
